We had such an eventful week! On Tuesday, the PTA threw us an awesome Valentine's Day party! The students had a blast playing all of the different games. They also enjoyed huge sugar cookie and the juice box provided by the PTA. I would like to thank everyone who was involved in the planning and implementation of that party. It was wonderful! On Thursday we had Ag in the Class. The students learned what peanut butter is and how to make it. The were able to see how peanut butter is made, and they even got to sample some homemade peanut butter! What an awesome lesson!

Multiplication
Please keep having your child practice their multiplication facts. We will be doing more with division next week. In order to be successful in division, they need to first master their multiplication facts.

Yearbook
Last Friday an order form went home with Friday Folders about a yearbook order. These orders are due next Friday, February 24th.

President Reports
I am so proud of all of the hard work that the students put into their President reports. We really enjoyed listening to each other present their posters. We will still have a few more reports to listen to next week since we ran out of time due to the half day! Great job everyone!

The Week Ahead
English: We will continue our unit on adjectives and adverbs. We will also start talking about selecting good words to use in our writing.
Math: We will learn to make and draw arrays, estimate and find the area of a rectangle, find the sum of 3 addends, divide by 2 and 5, work backward to solve a problem, determine likelihood of an event, and determine the fairness or a game.
Reading: My reading class will be reading an expository nonfiction piece called, Yippie-Yay! A Book About Cowboys and Cowgirls. We will also discuss main idea and details in a story, how to use context to confirm meaning, how to use references and resources, how to decode words with the VCCV (vowel-consonant-consonant-vowel) spelling pattern, and fact and opinion. I have noticed that many students are still not reading the story on Mondays and Thursdays. This is not an optional homework assignment. Please help by checking to see if they are reading the story on these days.
Science: We will continue our unit about the rain forest.
Social Studies: We will learn why people built Cahokia and St. Louis.

I hope everyone enjoys their long weekend! There is no school on Monday because of President's Day! Please e-mail me with any questions or concerns.
