Tuesday is Valentine's Day! The students are getting very excited for the Valentine's Day party, and that excitement was intensified on Friday when we made our valentine bags. The students were each given a white paper bag, construction paper, and creative freedom. They had a blast turning basic white bags into beautiful valentine bags.

President Posters
I just want to remind everyone that our President Poster Project is due on Friday, February 17th. If your child finishes their poster early they can absolutely bring it in early. Please contact me with questions about this project.

Multiplication Facts
We are making great progress with learning our multiplication facts. Last week we started learning to multiply by 5. Please make sure your child is practicing these facts every night. Also, I am continuing to test the students on the 7's and the 2's. Please make sure your child is still practicing these facts as well.

The Week Ahead
English: We will continue our unit on adjectives and adverbs. We will also be exploring how to organize our ideas when we write.
Math: We will be learning some new concepts, but we will also be focusing on problem solving strategies. This will help to prepare the students for the upcoming ISAT.
Reading: My reading class will be reading a piece of historical fiction called, Leah's Pony. We will also discuss fact and opinion, how to self-question, how to decode compound words, narrative elements, alliteration, and vivid verbs.
Science: We will begin a unit on tropical rain forests.
Social Studies: We will continue learning about where people start communities.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Please e-mail me at bcalcott@orionschools.us with any questions or concerns.
Quick reminder: Friday is a half day!
