Friday Newsletter

The Week Ahead
English: We have started our unit on adjectives and adverbs. So far, we have covered what an adjective is, and adjectives can also tell us how much or how many.
Math: We will learn to add money amounts, read and show temperature on the Celsius scale, identify the number of days in each month, identify the number of days in a year, multiply by 5, identify the commutative property of multiplication, and locate points on a grid. We have also been exploring how to answer extended response math problems. The students will be expected to answer extended response problems on the ISAT.
Reading: My reading class will be reading a play called, The Crowded House. We will also discuss, similes and metaphors, author's purpose, following directions, making predictions, and much more. For the past few Fridays, we have been practicing how to answer reading questions with an extended response. The students are quickly gaining confidence.
Science: We will discuss the four different forest ecosystems.
Social Studies: We will discuss how to follow a diagram, and why communities are built where people meet.

Valentine's Day
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, I know that students are starting to pick out and fill out their valentines for their classmates. I will be sending a class list home this week. Please look for this list in your child's assignment notebook.

President Poster
I just want to remind everyone that the President Poster Project is due on Friday, February 17th. The students seem really excited about this research project! I am looking forward to seeing their wonderful posters and hearing their information! If you have questions about this assignment, please e-mail me.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Please e-mail me at bcalcott@orionschools.us with any questions or concerns.
