Three full days and one half day sure do fly by! The students were very excited for this long weekend, but were able to keep calm during instructional time. I was very proud of them for that! We were also very excited to see some snow falling on Wednesday! This quickly got the students thinking about December, and all of the exciting events that come along with it.
No Worksheets
You will notice as you look through your child's Friday Folder that there are no graded worksheets. This decision was agreed upon by the third grade team. We felt, that since it was a shorter week, we would just send all of the graded worksheets home next Friday, November 18th.
Pencil Shortage
Some students are still having a pencil shortage. Please check with your child to see if they are short on pencils.
The Week Ahead
English: We will continue our verb unit.
Math: We will learn to read a thermometer to the nearest degree Fahrenheit, identify freezing and boiling points of water and normal body temperature on the Fahrenheit scale, estimate a reasonable temperature, use comparison symbols, identify horizontal, vertical, and oblique lines and line segments, and find perimeter.
Reading: My reading class will be reading and exploring a story called, The Stories Julian Tells. We will also discuss sequence of events, reading ahead, following directions, the prefix re-, multiple-meaning words, and possessive and plural words.
Science: We will discuss types of animals.
Social Studies: We will continue our unit about The First Thanksgiving.
I hope everyone enjoys this long weekend! Please feel free to e-mail me at bcalcott@orionschools.us with any questions or concerns.
